The HAZWOPER 40 course is particularly designed for general site workers: those that are involved in clean-up, voluntary clean-up and emergency response operations, storage disposal and/or treatment of hazardous substances/waste sites. It is mandated by the government for employees that are working on an Uncontrolled Hazardous Waste Operation to acquire the OSHA HAZWOPER 40 hour training.
The 40-hour HAZWOPER training online covers topics including hazard recognition and protection against hazardous chemicals, removal of hazardous chemicals, risk evaluation for chemical and general site safety concerns, HAZWOPER OSHA regulations, and more.
In compliance with regulations, employees must have HAZWOPER 40 hour training and at least three days of supervised field experience before they are allowed to enter the site. This 40-hour HAZWOPER course meets the requirement of OSHA HAZWOPER training. The three days of supervised field experience can be fulfilled via the student’s employer or potential employer.
Upon completion of the online HAZWOPER 40 hour training, you will be able to print a certificate of completion which is accepted by OSHA as documentation of training.

HOW DO I GET OSHA HAZWOPER TRAINING?
After you are hired for a job, your employer should provide you with the CDL, OSHA HAZ Training, and any other special training needed to perform HAZMAT clean-up duties. The HAZWOPER 40 Hour training can be completed online or in-person through an OSHA HAZWOPER certified training program. Employers are required to maintain HAZWOPER 40 hour training records for each employee trained.
WHAT HAZMAT DO I NEED HAZWOPER 40 HOUR TRAINING FOR?
Employees that work at sites where Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Hazardous Waste Regulations apply will require HAZWOPER 40 hour safety training. This applies if your job requires you to handle wastes regulated by these regulations – e.g., is involved in remediating contaminated soil or wastewater, recycling of bulbs or pesticides, cleaning up an accidental spill of hazardous chemicals.
HAZWOPER 40 hour training is required for employees performing clean-up duties at uncontrolled waste sites, remediation projects, and HAZMAT clean-ups.
WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT HAZMAT PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT?
HAZWOPER 40 hour HAZMAT personnel are required to wear proper, protective PPE as outlined in OSHA standards 29 CFR 1910.120 and 1910.139. Personnel performing emergency response operations must follow Emergency Response Team guidelines established by the local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).
All personnel wearing respiratory protection must use an air-purifying respirator whenever performing work where there is exposure to chemical, biological or radiological contaminants. HAZWOPER 40 HAZMAT air-purifying respirators may not be used for respiratory protection in atmospheres that are immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH).
HOW LONG IS HAZWOPER 40 CERTIFICATION VALID?
To maintain HAZWOPER certification, it is necessary to complete an 8-hour HAZWOPER Refresher course each year. If the deadline is missed, a 40-hour HAZWOPER course may need to be retaken.
