WHAT IS AN OSHA 30-HOUR GENERAL INDUSTRY SAFETY CERTIFICATION?

The Online OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Safety Certification is an introductory level course. This course covers general industry standards found in the OSHA 29 CFR 1910 regulations as well as other general industry topics. Enrolling in this program provides you with the essential knowledge needed to maintain safe working conditions for yourself and your co-workers, as well as a strong understanding of how to work safely within your own environment.

Different types of hazards will vary depending on your specific environment, but there are some hazards that are seen repeatedly throughout many industries.

WHAT DOES THE OSHA 30 HOUR GENERAL INDUSTRY CERTIFICATION COVER?

OSHA Standards – In this section students will learn about the purpose of OSH Act and its history, they’ll review hazard recognition and methods of control, and they’ll study common types of injuries that occur in general industry settings.

OSHA Regulations – In this section students will be learning about the OSHA standards by studying their specific elements and how those elements relate to one another and how they address any problems that are found within a workplace. They will also see how OSHA standards, along with other state and federal regulations, help protect both workers and the workplace as a whole.

How People Are Protected By These Standards – This is where students will be able to see some examples of how these standards work together not only at a theoretical level but at a practical level as well. You should learn from this section what General Industry offers in terms of protection for every person who might enter your workspace.

General Industry Topics – This is a section of the course that students should take very seriously as it contains information on some very common workplace hazards. It is also where they will be studying how to work safely in their own environment, which may or may not overlap with any of the other topics discussed here.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME A CERTIFIED OSHA GENERAL INDUSTRY EMPLOYEE?

To be considered for certification, you must have at least 30 hours of classroom or equivalent training. 20 hours of this training must include general industry safety and health topics as covered by OSHA 29 CFR 1910. You should already understand three main concepts before beginning this course: how hazards in the workplace can cause harm to employees, how they can contribute to workplace injuries and illnesses, and what methods companies use to prevent these injuries from taking place. You’ll also need a minimum score of 70% on each topic within your class that is applicable (you won’t be required to pass every part). This will allow you to successfully demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of general industry standards without being exposed to any kind of hazardous material.

In order to receive your certificate, you’ll need to take the exam that is provided at the end of this course. To pass this test, you will need a score of 70% or higher. Upon passing the requirements for certification, you’ll be able to use your knowledge and experience in order to work safely in your own environment.

WHAT TOPICS MAY COME UP WITHIN MY OSHA GENERAL INDUSTRY SAFETY CERTIFICATION?

Throughout your studies within this program, there are many things that students come across over and over again. Some specific topics they’ll encounter include: what causes injuries and illnesses in general industry settings; how workplace hazards can cause harm; how these standards help protect employees from harm; who (and why) benefits from these standards; what risk factors you should be aware of in your specific workplace; how to recognize hazards and how they can affect you or other coworkers; some common types of injuries that are found in the general industry environment, as well as where (and why) they occur.

HOW MUCH TIME WILL I NEED TO PASS THIS PROGRAM?

In order to receive your certificate, you’ll only need to spend 30 hours on the material and go through with the testing at the end of it all. But there are many students who study these programs for a longer period of time (usually about 6 months) in order to prepare for their tests or just for personal interest reasons. Students may choose between getting the information as quickly as possible or taking their time and enjoying themselves while also learning everything they can from this experience. Regardless of what kind of pace you follow throughout this course, it’s recommended that you take at least 15-30 minutes every day to study on your own. If you’re pressed for time, you can make a schedule with weekly blocks of 30 minutes to an hour in order to ensure that you are still studying enough and looking over the material regularly.

WHAT CAN I DO IF I WANT MORE PRACTICE TESTS OR SAMPLE QUESTIONS?

It’s always smart for students to start off their course with as much preparation as they possibly can before taking the test at the end of it all. In order to help with this task, students will often turn towards online study guides or other resources that offer quizzes, flashcards, multiple-choice questions, case studies, and so much more about these subjects than what is offered within the program itself. Our 30 Hour General Industry Safety Certification Package comes with a study guide. Alternatively, you can purchase the study guide separately prior to registering for your online training.

IF I AM ALREADY CERTIFIED AT ANOTHER LEVEL (30-HOUR), WILL THESE CREDITS TRANSFER OVER?

With this training, you’ll receive only 30 hours of instruction regardless of other training that you may have taken previously. You can still use the hours that you have already completed, but they are not related to this specific program. If you’re trying to get your General Industry Safety (30-Hour) certification, but have taken other courses within the past year, then it’s possible that these credits may transfer over if they were marked with a previous level of training. This is something that will vary from organization to organization and you should talk to management before signing up for the course in order to understand what is required by your company.

HOW LONG DOES MY 30-HOUR CERTIFICATION LAST?

Your training will expire within a year of purchasing the course. You’ll also need to complete your certificate within that time or you will have to pay out of pocket in order to take it again. If you’re looking for something more long-lasting, then there are other options available such as the 30 Hour Construction Safety & Health Certification Program.
